Nia Cultural Center, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non profit, community based organization founded in 1992 that serves children and families in the Galveston community.
Our Mission
Nia Cultural Center, Inc.’s mission is to empower people with knowledge for successful living by providing education nrichment services to children and families

Nia Cultural Center is a community-based non-profit agency incorporated in the State of Texas in 1992. Located on Galveston Island, Nia is an educational organization with activities and
programs focused on culture and history and their impacts on the lives of children, youth, and families.

Examples of Nia programs are the Black History Quiz Bowl—a fun and exciting game show where youth organizations in the Galveston Area compete for prizes by answering questions about Black History; Girls Rites of Passage aimed at instilling in young AfricanAmerican girls a strong respect for self, family, and community; The Freedom Tour, a civil rights educational project that enables youth to visit and explore historical civil rights landmarks throughout the south; National African American Parent Involvement Day; and Freedom School providing literacy-rich summer programs for children ages 5 to 18.

Nia also provides presentations and training to promote awareness and cultural competency in service planning and delivery in the community
